Weather & Road Conditions

There is gradual but steady rise in elevation from Alder Creek (1,100 feet) in the villages of Mt Hood’s most western area to Timberline Lodge (6,000 feet) in its eastern end. It occurs over a short 26 mile stretch. This means that weather and road conditions can vary significantly in the region, particularly from mid-fall to late spring. This is also true for the region’s celebrated trail systems for hikers and cyclists. Checking conditions is very important in your plans for a successful trip or outing.

The Mt Hood Area Chamber of Commerce suggests starting with a check in on line at www.intellicast.com centered on the Welches Area for a big picture view of weather conditions. A good resource of a compilation of over 30 weather and road condition sites for the Mt Hood area and immediate surrounds can be found at www.mthood.info. For trail conditions check in at the Zigzag Ranger Station’s Visitor Information Center in Zigzag (503-622-3191) or visit the trail conditions on their website.
